Last week, I had the opportunity to break from my usual work and join up with the #sonomacountyparks #naturalresources wildlife team (@sheilaoutside , @dcar011 ) to collect images from our wildlife cameras. We were elated to find a lot of recent Mountain Lion (Puma concolor) activity at one of our spots. To be a mountain lion in this county is a challenge. Habitats fractured by roads, urban development, and agricultural lands make maintaining a 60-90 mile home range no easy task. Captures like these are a rare treat. Viewing lions on cameras is the closest I’ve ever been to seeing one in person, despite having worked in parks nearly six years and being an avid outdoorsperson. For me, seeing them in this way invokes feeling of reverence and respect. It is a reminder to me that we share the places that we call home with truly the most beautiful people.
