26/42 - Cliftonhill, Albion Rovers FC, 4/5/19: A visit to Coatbridge for ground number 26 on the tour as we took in Albion Rovers v Annan Athletic in the final league game of the season before the playoffs. Free street parking was found close to the ground which we located without any issues. £13.00 each was the cost to enter and after a short walk up some stairs we are greeted with the Club Shop to the left and the Main Stand and food kiosk to the right. Pin badges were secured for £3.00 each after which we took a walk behind the goal to fully take in Cliftonhill. It’s 100 years old this year and it’s fair to stay it’s showing its age in places but it still retains its own unique charm. Before taking our seats we got a pie and it was pretty decent. Hot, tasty and everything a pie should be really. 8/10.
We decided to sit in the stand for the first half and goodness me the legroom is pretty poor and we aren’t the tallest of people. In addition, you struggle to see the whole pitch from the back of the stand not to mention the numerous pillars blocking the view. We’d definitely recommend sitting nearer to the front if you choose to sit in the stand. For the second half we stood at the side of the pitch and got great views of the action and of the goals which Annan grabbed late in the game.
A special mention to all the staff here who were friendly and helpful but in particular to the tannoy announcer who was hilarious on the microphone. In summary we enjoyed our day at Cliftonhill, it’ll just be interesting to see if it survives another 100 years.
