I had a life coaching session today. Moana came up as a theme. We discussed how Moana is a Voyager at heart, but has to go on a journey and achieve as task before she is able to unlock that identity for herself and her people. The sea helps her but doesnt do it for her; it's all about the journey and the process.
Tafiti is hurting, broken, and Moana puts her heart back. My coach asked me 'if you are Tafiti, what is missing that needs to be put back? What is your heart longing for, that you keep coming back to? And how do you fill that need with unhelpful things - what are they?' .
From previous sessions and other reflections theres a deep sense of not belonging. Rather than putting it off I am taking time now to reflect, mind map, unpack, identify times I have filled that need of not belonging - for me by over-connecting (needing a role/title/affirmation/involvement at a sometimes unhelpful and unhealthy level) as well as disconnecting to find safety (presenting image of being self sufficient and OK, not making effort with friends, keeping things on the periphery, deflecting with humour etc).
I love how a conversation and reflections on a Disney movie can open up a whole load of stuff to process. Proud of myself for actually doing the work investing in myself.
And yes that is Tafiti's heart in the middle of the page 💚
