As we head into the first week of the playoffs, one of the biggest questions is: “Can we trust Aaron Rodgers?” While this question may seem complex and confusing, the answer is pretty simple to me—Yes, but only in a plus matchup. Rodgers is currently ranked as the No. 8 QB in most leagues. However, if you own him, it doesn’t feel like that. He’s only topped 20 points 4 times this season. In comparison, Josh Allen has topped 20 points 6 times this year. While it may seem like Rodgers is wildly inconsistent, dropping 40 points one week and then 13 the next, if we look at his four “good” games: PHI-25, OAK-43, KC-27, NYG- 28—one thing stands out. He performs well against awful secondaries! Against a good defense, Rodgers plays poorly; against an average defense, he plays okay. Only against a bad defense, can Rodgers win you your week!
While at first glance, Rodgers is wildly inconsistent, the absolute contrary is true. Rodgers is astonishingly consistent, and his good games are easy to predict. This week against Washington I would start Rodgers with FULL confidence, however, I would bench Rodgers after week 14 as he faces Chicago (8th best QB defense) and the Vikings (13th best QB defense).
If you need to look elsewhere for QB, I’ll be recording a podcast on QB playoff streamers later this week.
