Jussuf Abbo (1888/1890-1953)

Jussuf Abbo was born in Safed in the Ottoman Empire, his artistic talent got noticed and he began studying sculpture at the Royal Academy of the Fine Arts in Berlin, 1913.
His first major solo exhibition took place in Hanover, 1921.
The National Socialists gained power, so he and his family emigrated to Britain in 1935.
Many artworks got destroyed.
After that time Abbo couldn't reach to former success and died sick and impoverished in London at the age of about 63, 1953.
This exhibition was made possible by donations of works by Jussuf Abbo from an artcollector and the estate of Jussuf Abbo to the Sprengel Museum Hannover in 2019.
