Kodama Duo from @indiegamestudios is an excellent two-player version of Kodama. I love the art of @kwanchaimoriya. It has a magical quality to it that really fits well with the game's theme.
You and your opponent start with a trunk card and grow your tree over three seasons. You're cultivating the kodama, or tree spirits, by adding branch cards to your tree each turn. Each season a decree is revealed that introduces a special rule for that season.
What I really dig about this two-player version is the use of the I-Split-You-Choose mechanism. Every round the active player draws three cards and splits them into a pair and a single card. The other player chooses which one they want and both players add one card to their tree. The player who didn't get the pair of cards gets to claim a spirit token and places it anywhere in their tree. Points are scored based on features (flowers, fireflies, etc.) that are on a contiguous line of cards.
After each season, you score additional points based on one of the Kodama cards in your hand (for example, 2 points for every caterpillar in your tree). The most points wins.
What's your favorite I-Split-You-Choose game?
