Junior Firpo, Bruno Fernandes, Timo Werner - how Liverpool linked players have started the season
There was a seemingly desperate clamour for Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy to make a move for a number of players this summer
Junior Firpo of Barcelona, Bruno Fernandes of Sporting CP and Timo Werner of RB Leipzig
The summer transfer window of 2019 was a relatively quiet affair for Liverpool.
The Reds repeatedly reiterated their stance over not needing to sign any major players while every credible journalist and publication connected with the club stated the same thing.
Of course, there were a couple of incomings with goalkeeper Adrian being swiftly brought in as back-up after Simon Mignolet departed while plans were also made for the future with the purchase of starlets Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg.
However, despite all this there was still a seemingly desperate clamour for Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield hierarchy to make a move for a number of players with several names in particular being linked with the club more than most.
Here the ECHO takes a look at how three of those players have got on so far this season to see whether Liverpool did miss out when choosing not to bid.
Junior Firpo of FC Barcelona runs with the ball
Junior Firpo was linked with a whole host of top European clubs this summer after an impressive debut season with Real Betis in La Liga.
The left-back, who can also operate on the left side of midfield, moved to Barcelona in August for a fee in the region of £16million.
Many Reds believed he would be the ideal back-up for Andy Robertson but Liverpool were unmoved.
