Are you training properly?? FIND OUT BELOW 👇 - - - Follow this step by step guide to perform at your best and stay injury free. This progression is to give you more guidance in your training. Of course you can interlace these components but the main emphasis should be one level at a time. From the ground up 📈 - - 1) MOVEMENT 🏃 - This is the foundation for exercise. Before you hit the weights make sure to find out if your body is moving optimally. Tight hips, anterior pelvic tilt, and lumbar hyperextension are very common problems among people today due to sitting around all day. Assess your posture, take a functional movement screen, stretch, do mobility work, and work on your breathing. Think of this like steering a car. The tighter your turn radius the better the car is going to handle. - - 2) STRENGTH 💪 - After addressing some imbalances, gaining more mobility and range of motion, hit the weights! This step is absolutely essential if you want to be more explosive, faster, stronger and durable. These are the brakes and suspension of your car. Being able to stop at high speeds and make tight turns will ensure the car stays on the track. - - 3) POWER 💥 - Once you have a solid foundation of strength, start moving the weights quickly and explosively. This is exactly what Olympic lifting and plyometrics are designed to do. Use your strength to produce maximal amounts of force quickly. This is the engine of your car, responsible for horsepower and rapid acceleration. - - 4) SPEED ⚡- Use your newly recruited muscle fibers and put them to the test by sprinting and jumping at maximum effort. Perform agility drills to be more agile and fluid with your movement. This is the body or frame of your car. The lighter, more aerodynamic, and compact the car, (including the previous parts) the faster and more fluid the car is going to perform. - - 5) SKILL 🧠 - This is where the rubber meets the road. With all the new developments and advancements made to your body it's time to put them to use. Program exercises that mimic exactly what you'll be doing in your sport. This is the driver of the car, responsible for maintaining control of the powerful machine.

Especially when both is working towards achieving the same goal to be faster, quicker, stronger and more explosive. However, female athletes are more prone to knee injuries. They’re 6 times more likely to suffer an ACL injury than a male athlete. ACL and MCL tears are the most common. However, like any compound exercise there are certain pre-requisites before attempting to perform and implement the lift. Depending on your mobility, level of body awareness, strength, current or past injuries and level of fitness, the barbell deadlift may not be suitable for you at your current stage. 
We can though build our way up to the deadlift through a series of exercises to acquire the skill, strength, movement pattern and so on to execute the lift properly to avoid injury and pain.

Here is a guide that you can follow to build yourself up to completing your first proper barbell deadlift. Perform each movement until it is comfortable and pain free for multiple sets of 10-12 reps before moving on to the following exercise.

🔥ASCENDING SETS TO INCREASE STRENGTH🔥 • • • • To make ascending sets simple, it’s a decrease in reps, increase in weight, & maintenance of speed. The reps I used for this squat session was 5-4-4-3 with the goal of increasing weight and maintaining bar speed throughout the entire session. As weight goes up, reps go down. I believe the most important factor in enhancing strength is to maintain bar speed as the weight gets heavier. The goal isn’t to increase weight to where each set is a near failure. The focus is maintaining the optimal speed throughout each rep of each set no matter the weight. Since strength is being trained, the weight needs to be heavy enough to where each rep isn’t super fast, but not too heavy to where each rep turns into an absolute grind. Bulletproof your groin by strengthening your adductors. Elevated side plank with adductor hold; can be performed without the running movement initially to build strength. It teaches the rotator cuffs to engage through a range of motion. It’s very important that your rotator cuffs are able stabilize your shoulder joint while larger muscles are at work. Sports Performance Trainer Announcement!!! . . Hi there, my name is Bayley! I am originally from Utah, but I came up to Oregon to play soccer for for the University of Oregon, and ended up joining the UO softball team as well. While playing both sports I managed to get a degree in General Science with minors in psychology and chemistry. I successfully went through the Pre-Med route with a competitive GPA, but realized I lacked passion and drive in the particular field. So I did what I do best and freaked my parents out by dropping medicine entirely and picked up what I know and love most..fitness. I got my NASM personal certification, and began spreading all of the knowledge I have accumulated throughout my time as an athlete. I can say with all of my heart that it was the best decision, and watching clients grow stronger both mentally and physically is what makes it all worth it. So let’s get it.
