Let's talk about the Carvajal/Hakimi situation. Dani Carvajal has been Real Madrid's first choice right back since the 2013/14 season replacing Arbeloa. Real Madrid found a successor for Dani in their youth ranks. It was Achraf Hakimi who came through the youth ranks much like Carvajal did and was loaned to a German Club to gain experience.
Carvajal today is 28 years old and is at the peak of his powers. He has improved a lot this season getting 4 assist and 2 goals. His attacking capabilities are evident in the matches. His deadly crosses, amazing ball control benefits Madrid a lot. However, I believe he is really inconsistent. Like yesterday he lost the battle against Reguilion who infact is our loanee but still. Sometimes Carvajal tends to struggle defensively and it leaves our right side vulnerable. The Spaniard is a great player and I'm not taking anything away from him however, he's like how Gary Neville was at Man Utd when they were at their peak. Basically a great player but the weakest out of a lot of world-class players. Honestly I love Carvajal and sometimes he puts in great displays like the solo goal against Sevilla in the Super Cup 2016 however, I really want Hakimi to take his place.
Moving on to Achraf. The Moroccan is just 21 years old and is setting the football world on fire. The full back is versatile and can play at RB, LB, LM, RM as well as a defensive midfielder. As of the past 2 seasons he is head and shoulders above Carvajal. Although the youngster isn't even near his Spanish counterpart in terms of crossing; his dribbling, strength, speed and defensive contribution is way better. The Moroccan has already scored 6 times and has as many assists.
Due to these reasons I believe Hakimi should be able to break into the first team next season. The 21 year old just has much more to offer than Carvajal. He's more versatile, he's stronger, he's faster and he can defend! I respect Carvajal and he'll probably start next season but just like Fede with Modric; Hakimi will likely bench him halfway through the season.
